VaShawn Mitchell hits a historic milestone with the release of his tenth studio album SoundCheck on October 24, 2025. This 10-song, 50-minute project marks three decades of influence in international gospel music under the Vman Entertainment and Fair Trade Services label.
The Harvey, Illinois artist celebrates an exceptional journey that began at age 20 as Minister of Music at Sweet Holy Spirit Church in Chicago. Mitchell forged his musical identity in a city recognized as the cradle of gospel, developing an approach that combines traditional roots and contemporary production.
SoundCheck symbolizes the spiritual preparation that precedes each moment of ministry. Mitchell says the album serves as a reminder of the importance of personal, musical and spiritual preparation before going on stage. This philosophy shines through in each composition of the project which brings together renowned collaborators like Darius James and Dante Bowe on the title Wait, as well as Taelia Robinson Jackson on Working Together.
The album also includes an international dimension with Glory to God, a song written by South African author Collen Malueke. This collaboration illustrates the global vision of worship carried by Mitchell throughout his career. The project follows the resounding success of Make A Way, a single released in March 2025 which reached number one on the Billboard and Mediabase Gospel Airplay charts.
The winner of seven Stellar Awards and three GMA Dove Awards has maintained remarkable artistic consistency since his album Triumphant in 2010. The latter propelled Nobody Greater to the top of the charts for nine consecutive weeks, establishing Mitchell as a key figure in modern gospel. The song was certified Gold in 2019 with over 500,000 sales and streams combined.
Beyond his performing career, Mitchell has chaired the Gospel Heritage Foundation since 2018 and founded the Norman Youth and Arts Foundation in 2012. These initiatives demonstrate his commitment to the development of young gospel talent and the preservation of Christian musical heritage.
