Sy Garte-Does modern science reveal a creator design?

August 19, 2025 marked the publication of “Beyond Evolution: How New Discoveries in the Science of Life Point To God” of the Biochemist and Christian Evangelical Sy Garte. This new book is part of the movement of evangelical authors who seek to reconcile science and faith through a nuanced reading of contemporary scientific discoveries.

Garte, former atheist who has become a Christian and professor of molecular biology, relies on his work to demonstrate that recent advances in genetics, neuroscience and cell biology promote a paradigm change in understanding of evolution.

The book notably points to the importance of cognition, teleology-the notion of goal or project-and self-organization in the emergence of life, concepts today rediscumed even by the secular scientific world. Garte cites the phenomena of learning and decision -making in bacteria, non -random genetic plasticity and cases of directed mutations revealed by modern evolutionary biology.

According to him, these discoveries correlated with the need for a transmitted engine (precise replication heredity) constitute plausible clues of a “creative design”, which cannot be reduced to pure materialist coincidence.

For the international evangelical community, this exit is significant: Garte invites to go beyond the controversies on evolution to adopt modern synthesis as testimony of divine greatness.

He refutes the idea that the evolution and the Christian faith are incompatible, calling for a respectful dialogue on the foundations of life, in line with the work of Francis Collins and the Biologos Foundation.

This opening approach, based on solid scientific and theological references, resonates strongly in believers in search of rational arguments reinforcing their faith while remaining faithful to scientific integrity.

It marks a new milestone in the history of science and faith dialogue, opening a constructive space for a new generation of evangelical researchers, students and theologians.
