TYSCOT RECORDS CELEBRATES GOSPEL MUSIC HERITAGE MONTH WITH TYSCOT CLASSICS REISSUE SERIES AND NEW CLASSIC FROM BISHOP LEONARD SCOTT
Bishop Leonard Scott
Indianapolis, IN: Tyscot Records – the world’s oldest continuously owned and operated gospel recording label – is celebrating Gospel Music Heritage Month with the launch of the Tyscot Classics line of reissue albums debuting on their digital service platform. The company is also releasing a future classic from Tyscot co-founder Bishop Leonard Scott.
The 45-year-old recording label has launched Tyscot Classics to reissue out-of-print albums from Tyscot’s vast catalog on digital service platforms for the first time. Among the gems in the vault are hundreds of songs, ranging from an early Kenny `Babyface’ Edmonds production, to an early track by Kirk Franklin which predates his platinum breakthrough, “Why We Sing.”
MMWC – Jesus is the real thing
The series kicks off with the Miami Music Workshop Choir’s 2000 live recording, Jesus is the Real Thing. It features Kervy Brown’s legendary crack on the title cut, as well as a beautiful rendition of the hymn, “I Love to Praise Him.”
On September 10, Tyscot Classics will reissue saxophonist Harold Rayford’s 1994 album Soul Music. The eleven-track set includes instrumental renditions of “Speak to My Heart” by Donnie McClurkin and Walter Hawkins’ “Thank You, Lord.”

Members of legendary choir The Thompson Community Singers reunited as Tommies Reunion in 2018 to release a moving self-titled album that features the Top 20 radio hit, “He Worked it Out.”
On September 24, Tyscot co-founder Bishop Leonard Scott released a track from his upcoming all-star hymns project. “Great I Am,” a poignant worship track, features rising star Quinton Elliott. The track begins with acoustic guitar and gradually builds into a full-on worship jamboree.
ABOUT GOSPEL MUSIC HERITAGE MONTH The month of September was established as Gospel Music Heritage Month in 2008 by dual legislation passed by the United States House of Representatives. UNITED STATES (House Resolution 900) and the U.S. Senate (Senate Resolution 595). It is an observation of the profound and endearing influence that gospel music has had on American life and culture.
