Exodus: Follow the god who opens the sea
L'Exodus is a powerful book, marked by stories epic which reveal the loyalty of God towards his people. You may wonder why I'm talking to you about this book today. Let me tell you abouthistory in a simpler way, but with all its spiritual weight.
We are at a time when the people of Israel suffer. Slaves in Egyptthey cry out to God, and he hears their appeal. There, in the midst of their pain, God chooses a man to lead them out of this oppression: Moses. Yes, Moses, this hesitant man, who was not comfortable with his words, but who, through the plans of God, was going to become a liberator. What a powerful reminder that God does not always call the qualified, but qualifies those he calls.
Moses stands in front of the burning bush. A simple bush, however on fire without consuming. This is where it all starts. God gives him a clear mission: to go before Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and ask for the liberation of the people. Easy, right? Except that Pharaon refuses, again and again. What follows is a series of powerful and terrifying miracles: ten wounds. Water transformed into blood, frogs, darkness … All this to show Pharaoh that God is the true king.
Finally, after the most devastating plague, the death of the firstborn, Pharaoh yields. The Israelites come out, not in calm, but in haste, because God pushes them to flee. However, Pharaoh, blinded by his own pride, pursues them to the Red Sea. You know the rest, right? The sea opens in front of them, offering them a path, and closes on their enemies. A miracle as tall as God's goodness.
But that's not all. The journey continues through the desert. Forty years. Yes, forty long years when the people complain, doubt, but God, faithful, gives them everything they need. The manna descends from the sky. Water springs from the rocks. And at Mount Sinai, God gives them the law, the ten commandments and the civil and criminal law, to guide their lives.
And here is where all this leads us, my friend. Like the Israelites, we sometimes cross deserts in our lives. Moments of doubt, periods of questioning. But like them, we have a God who guides us, nourishes us, and frees us from our chains. God is never far away. He is there, in every moment, in each obstacle, ready to open seas for us.
So when you read the exodus, remember that it's more than a story. It is a reminder of the power and fidelity of God in our own lives. A call to trust him, even when the path seems insurmountable.
Be blessed, my friend, and never forget that, like Israel, you too are led to a promised land.
