GRAMMY® AWARD WINNER
TAMELA MANN HAS NEW RELEASE, OVERCOMER, OUT AUGUST 6, 2021
Tamela steps up as a songwriter and producer on a new album.
DALLAS, Texas — Some albums are meant to last. After several years of evolving and changing her life, Grammy®-winning artist, actress, songwriter and NAACP Image® award-winning producer Tamela Mann releases her new Tillymann Music album, Overcomer, via The Orchard Distribution on Friday, August 6. There’s a new sense of authority and urgency in Tamela’s music now; she’s lived these songs and is ready to share the strength and purpose she’s found. Powered by the singer’s strong, passionate voice and newfound songwriterly voice, each of Overcomer’s 12 tracks is designed to bring healing and hope to a world resetting after a tumultuous chapter in its history. There’s a lot to unpack lyrically, and Tamela is at the helm of writing most of the songs. “I put my experiences into the lyrics, putting my heart and soul into the words of this album,” says Tamela. “It’s me looking at my life and the things I was dealing with, trying to learn from those things and doing what I can to overcome them.” Overcomer may be Tamela’s best work to date. Each song is a masterful production. The album was produced by Tamela and her husband, music producer and NAACP Image® Award-winning actor/comedian David Mann, with production backed by a group of renowned producers and writers. Special guests include Kirk Franklin and Wyclef Jean on the standout R&B-reggae-rap-gospel track “Hello God”; Todd Dulaney on the lovely “Finished Work”; Travis Green, co-writer and producer of the anthem “Finished”; and The Fellas, on their current single, “Help me.» “Touch From You,” the album’s lead single, added to Tamela’s bank of personal records; the track was her seventh No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart. “Source” and “He Did It For Me” are two other standouts. Says Tamela of the inspiration behind the lyrics for both: “God is the source and my go-to when I’m lost. I can’t do anything without Him, and I never want to try.” Overcomer is the latest achievement and centerpiece of Tamela’s storied career. In Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living (BET+), she reprises her role as “Cora,” which she originated in Perry’s hit “Madea” plays, films and the hit television show, Tyler Perry’s Meet The Browns. She and David released their first joint book and album, Us Against the World, which won the NAACP Image® Award. She stars in two upcoming films: Tyler Perry’s upcoming Netflix film “Madea” and BET’s Soul Santa, which she produced with David. Tamela also launched her own successful activewear line, the Tamela Mann Collection (tamelamann.com). The line has become a staple in the activewear industry. Tamela has always created art that encourages people and connects them with their faith. Her hit-filled musical career includes memorable songs like “Change Me,” “God Provides,” and the unforgettable #1 platinum classic, “Take Me to the King.” Tamela has received numerous accolades. In addition to winning a Grammy®, she is the recipient of a BET Award, a Billboard Music Award, and multiple awards Gospel Music Stellar, NAACP Image® Award and GMA Dove Award. “I love butterflies. I feel like I’m coming out of the cocoon again, energized and on fire,” says Tamela, who underwent surgery to replace both of her knees in the summer of 2019. After taking time to work on her health and wellness, and a new creative mindset, she presents herself as a changed woman expressing her heart and soul. “It’s new music for a new time and a new me,” she says. If someone were to ask the singer-songwriter what her greatest wish was for this album, Tamela Mann would answer, “My heart’s desire is to give people hope and let them know that there is still compassion in the world. It’s an opportunity for me to once again show God’s love and grace. That’s my purpose in life and for Overcomer.” Production Credits: Executive Producers: Tamela Mann and David Mann, Sr. Produced by: Phillip Bryant, Jevon Hill, Kirk FranklinTravis Green, Dontaniel Kimbrough, Todd Dulaney, Shaun Martin, Rickey “Slikk” Offord, Stanley Green, Tamela Mann
