R&B singer-songwriter and producer PJ Morton has won a Grammy Award for his inspirational debut album, Gospel According to PJ (Morton Records/Tyscot), in the Best Gospel Album category. The award was revealed during the pre-telecast of the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Mexican music singer Lupita Infante announced the category winner and Morton accepted virtually.
The all-star ensemble includes performances from gospel music legends such as Yolanda Adams, Kirk FranklinCommissioned and The Clark Sisters, among others. The first radio single “All in His Plan” – featuring Mary Mary and Le’Andria Johnson – reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart. The current single, “Repay You,” features J Moss, and debuted on the Top 30 Gospel Airplay chart last week. Listen link: https://smarturl.it/ukr2ld
Although this is Morton’s third Grammy win (out of 14), nominations in his career), it is the first victory for Tyscot Records. The label, which is over 45 years old, has won nominations in the past for artists such as the Rance Allen and Anthony Brown Group and therAPy Group. “We are thrilled with this win,” said Tyscot President Bryant Scott. “This is a great album and we are very proud of it and of PJ Morton.”
