Over the past year, Naomi Raine played a leading role in the collective Maverick City Music, winner of a GRAMMY Award. Today (7.8) she releases her solo album ‘Journey’ via TRIBL Records. Through 15 songs produced by Raine with G. Morris Coleman and seven intimate recordings of “Cat in Car,” the album delves into Raine’s life journey through the ebbs and flows of marriage, motherhood, health mental and more. Through her most vulnerable and personal songwriting to date, Raine embraces the discomfort of life and finds acceptance at every step of her journey.

“‘Journey’ is finally here,” says Raine. “I’ve been working on this project for a while and it’s truly an expression of my heart – processing, discovery, growth, creativity and collaboration through song. This is such a vulnerable project for me, and I’m grateful to share it with the world. My hope is that everyone who hears these songs will have the courage to love, to live, and to be free from the fear that keeps us from living apologetically and inauthentically.
Raine, a GRAMMY, Billboard Music, Dove and Stellar Award-winning artist, has always felt a calling to music, performing since the age of two. Throughout his life, it served as a coping mechanism. “Journey” explores the traumas of his past, while offering optimism and hope to overcome them. She began writing these songs in the wake of a miscarriage and in the midst of marriage therapy after her 2020 tour was canceled due to COVID. Nearly all of the 22 tracks are self-written, including a few written alongside Adale Jackson, co-producer G Morris Coleman, Gary Coach, Kayla Thompson, Taylor Drevan Hill and Tywan Mack.
“Hold On” is an anthem of strength for fighting for yourself and each other during life’s toughest times, while “Good Story” also honors the beautiful and broken parts of a relationship. “World On Fire” reflects a seemingly endless stream of tragic headlines that have covered the news in recent years, while “Won One” is a positive, optimistic anthem about holding your head high. She faces the consequences of bottling up her feelings on “Still Alone,” then finds the freedom to put herself first on “Choosing Myself.” Raine closes the album with “Merrily,” a song that finds joy in the craziness of life, and “Brand New,” which affirms the security she has through her faith.
The album is peppered with “car conversations” that she recorded while driving. In these intimate recordings, she talks about letting go of self-dependence, uncertainties of the heart, staying strong through tribulations, difficult goodbyes, self-discovery amid pandemic-induced isolation, sacrifice and more Again.
