Bible month: origins, calendar and international reality
The month of the Bible is a major religious mobilization, initiated in the middle of the 20th century by the biblical alliance with the objective of the valuation, dissemination and shared reading of the biblical text. The event, which is now widely recognized, is available according to national and ecclesial traditions, marking many Christian communities around the world each year.
Origins and symbolic
The origin of the month of the Bible dates back to the efforts of biblical societies in order to promote access, understanding and influence of writing to the greatest number. Its symbolism is powerful: it embodies the return to the founding speech, the construction of unity and the strengthening of civic and social engagement on ethical bases inspired by Christianity. The celebration often revolves around September 30, feast of Saint Jerome, translator of the Latin vulgate, a major reference in the Christian tradition.
A calendar adapted to each country
Unlike a widespread idea, the month of the Bible is not universally set in September all over the world.

At Canadathe main Christian institutions (biblical alliance, Protestant and evangelical associations) organize the month of the Bible in March, with a series of events and workshops on March 1.

In several countries in Latin America (Mexico, Bolivia, Chile), as well as in Africa (Democratic Republic of Congo), september is officially designated as the month of the Bible, consistent with the feast of Saint Jérôme and the Catholic and local Protestant uses.

To UNITED STATESthere is no month of the Universal Bible, but many communities celebrate the International Bible Day in the fall (especially November 24), or organize specific events according to their liturgical calendar.

In Haitithe Bible Day was celebrated on various dates, notably on December 13, but some communities adapt their calendar to that of Latin America or organize modulated events on September.
