“I Don’t Have Much” was written by Mission House’s Taylor Leonhardt during an extremely difficult season. Working multiple jobs to pay rent, exhausted, discouraged, and feeling a lot of shame about it all, Taylor shares how she had to learn to ask for help, but more importantly, how to receive it. She explains, “When I think about God’s kindness in my life at that time, even now, it just doesn’t make sense. I think God isn’t asking me to prove myself to Him, He’s asking me to trust Him with my heart and find my life in His life.”
Fellow North Carolinian Josh Baldwin heard something very relatable in “I Don’t Have Much” — a message he wanted his church to hear and sing together. As he began leading it at his church, he connected with Taylor and Jess Ray of Mission House as he expressed how encouraged the song had been to him and the response to the song as he led it.
Baldwin’s collaboration on this Mission House single grew organically from there and the continued growth of connection people have found with the message and melody of “I Don’t Have Much” across all platforms.
