Miracles & Co. : The faith industry in Haiti – when the altar becomes an automatic counter
In Haiti, the quest for miracles has turned into flourishing business, where hope is changing at a high price. Influential religious figures orchestrate massive events, promising divine solutions to the country’s ailments, while raising colossal funds. But behind these manifestations of faith hide controversial practices, financial scandals, and ethical questions which reveal a zombified people and an indifferent state.
Massive religious rallies have become manipulation shows where faith is literally monetized. Participants are invited to contribute financially to access blessings, healings or prophecies. “Rare” offerings, registrations at exorbitant prices, blessed objects sold at gold prices: faith is converted into currency, and miracles seem calibrated according to the amount of the donation.
The mechanics of the spiritual scam
• Hand imposition, mystical syncretism, ancestral songs, collective transes: these rituals give a mystical aura to events, while serving as a catalyst for financial gifts.
• Blessed objects: oil, bracelets, handkerchiefs, jericho water … Each object becomes an entrance ticket for the sky.
• Giant steps and gatherings: instruments to raise millions, while giving the impression that the people are saved.
• Calculated syncretism: Invocation of voodoo prayers and mystical songs, combined with biblical sermons, to create an illusion of spiritual depth, masking financial logic behind each gesture.
Key figures of the faith industry
Prophet Mackenson Dorilas: In 2018, Mackenson Dorilas claims to be able to resuscitate the dead and promises miracle healings against “gifts of faith”. His videos went around Haitian social networks, arousing fascination and skepticism. Some families who contributed denounce a spiritual scam, but no legal action has been initiated. Today, Dorilas has become a kind of religious actor, oscillating between spectacle and ministry, transforming his sermons into a live performance, with choreographies, cries of deliverance and theatrical effects to seduce the faithful.
Pasteur André Muscadin: former radio host, Pasteur André Muscadin establishes himself as a controversial figure in Haitian evangelism. Between marital scandals and accusations of financial extortion, he offers “rare” offerings
“, Like the Shalom inscription at 1000 gourdes, and various contributions supposedly linked to personalized blessings. He masters the art of fear and spiritual emergency, creating in his faithful a feeling that their salvation depends directly on their contribution.
Bishop Gregory Toussaint: In 2023, Bishop Grégory Toussaint organized the “Yon Souf Pou Ayiti” walk, evaluated at a million dollars. The event attracts criticism and skepticism: waste of resources and no transparency on the use of funds. It also multiplies diversified offerings, including “Solomon offerings”, transforming each religious event into a fundraising fundraising campaign to maximize profits while giving the impression of a patriotic or social action.
Pasteur Marcorel Zidor (Marco): renowned for his spectacular shows and syncretic practices, Marcorel Zidor “Marco” caused a tragedy in Canaan in August 2023, during a walk against armed gangs. Several faithful were shot in bullets. The pastor was criticized for having fled on a motorcycle, abandoning his followers in full attack. Its moral and spiritual responsibility is widely contested, but no significant judicial sanction has been applied. The latter perfectly illustrates the merger of the show, fear and financial predation, where faith becomes a lever for control and profit.
A zombified people, an indifferent state …
While these “miracle makers” accumulate fortunes, the Haitian state remains silent and inactive spectator. No regulation, no control, no sanction: silence is deafening in the face of the spiritual manipulation of a desperate people.
Concrete consequences:
• depleted families, believing to buy their salvation.
• Young people lost in collective transes or impossible promises.
• A company where faith becomes a lever for financial predation, while urgent social needs (hospitals, schools, security) remain ignored.
Biblical verses to deprogram the manipulation
• 1 Timothy 5:22: “does not impose hands lightly on anyone …”
• Acts 8: 18-20: Simon wanted to buy spiritual power-and was cursed.
• 1 John 4: 1: “Take mind …”
• Matthew 7: 15-20: “You will recognize them by their fruits. »»
• Jacques 1: 26-27: religion without integrity is in vain.
Questions for brains in standby
• Who really controls the finances of these alleged “men of God”?
• Why do miracles seem conditioned to an offering?
• What are these rituals worth to participate in misfortune?
• After all these shows, where are concrete fruits for society?
Spiritual lie kills more slowly than any weapon. Faith should not be sold. Delivery does not require an entry ticket or a subscription.
If your deliverance is conditioned by your wallet, know that it is not God who visits you … but a cassock trader who invoices illusion.
