Maverick City Music x Kirk Franklin Spends 3rd Week at No. 1 on Billboard Gospel Airplay Chart with Kingdom
The Maverick City music collective and the gospel legend Kirk Franklin have teamed up to raise awareness about mass incarceration in America.
Their collaborative album, Kingdom Book Onereleased June 17 via Tribl Records and Fo Yo Soul Entertainment/RCA Inspiration.
“Yours is the Kingdom / The power, the glory / Forever and ever / He has finished my story / We sing of freedom / Our testimony / We will sing forever, amen,” they sing on the soulful chorus.
Kingdom Book One was made entirely on the grounds of a Florida prison and features background voices from 1,300 inmates. “I think this album is for all fans who love music, and we hope that these songs and the stories behind them will serve as a way to raise awareness about the challenges people face every day – many of which are forgotten says Jonathan Jay of Maverick City Music.
“For me, the most memorable part of this experience was the prisoners’ response to remembering being human. It was an overwhelming feeling of gratitude and excitement that flowed through each day we spent with these men. It was amazing, and I think if more people became aware of these feelings, they would want to help find a solution to the problems that come with incarceration.
Kingdom Book One Deluxe Edition is out now and was recorded at the historic Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, North Carolina.
