ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, is celebrating its 44th annual ASCAP Christian Music Awards on Wednesday, September 21, across all social media platforms. This award ceremony recognizes the most-performed Christian music of the past year and features exclusive photos and interviews with winning songwriters and publishers. These highlights will be shared with the hashtag #ASCAPAwards on ASCAP’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.
Matthew West has earned the title of ASCAP Christian Songwriter of the Year for the fifth time in his career, acknowledging his work on hit songs like “Look What You’ve Done,” “My Jesus,” “Scars in Heaven,” “Weary Traveler,” and “What If.” With over 130 writing credits for artists such as Rascal Flatts, Scotty McCreery, and Amy Grant, along with an impressive solo career, West has previously been recognized as ASCAP Christian Songwriter-Artist of the Year in 2013, 2015, and 2016. He is also a five-time Grammy nominee and received seven nominations for the upcoming 2022 Dove Awards in October. West recently published his sixth book, The God Who Stays.
The song “My Jesus,” co-written by West, has been honored as the Christian Song of the Year. This single from songwriter-performer Anne Wilson reached the top of both the Christian Airplay and Hot Christian Songs charts and was nominated for Best Christian Song at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards. As part of the ASCAP awards, West will share the story behind “My Jesus” and perform it with Wilson in an exclusive video.
For the 20th consecutive year, Capitol CMG Publishing has been awarded ASCAP Christian Music Publisher of the Year for songs including “Be Alright,” “Child of Love,” “In the House,” “Next to Me,” and more. To commemorate this achievement, the Capitol CMG publishing team will gather to accept the award in a video shared on ASCAP’s social media channels.
The social media celebration will also feature an exclusive video performance from David Spencer, who will perform “In Jesus Name (God of Possible),” his hit song for Katy Nichole. Blessing Offor and Sam Ellis will share the story behind the award-winning film “Brighter Days,” while Jordan St. Cyr and co-writer AJ Prius will discuss their collaboration on “Weary Traveler” with Matthew West.
