Singer-songwriter and new Music Centricity signatory, Katy Nichole has not only gone viral, now reaching over 150 million people with the chorus of its first single “In the Name of Jesus (God of the Possible)“, but it also reached the second-highest position on the iTunes Top Songs overall chart while remaining at No. 1 on the iTunes Christian & Gospel chart since the song’s release.
Created from words from 21-year-old Katy’s prayer journal, written in the midst of a global health crisis and in response to her own story of pain, hope and healing, “In Jesus Name (God of Possible)” has even more people – premiering on the largest Christian music radio network, K-LOVEThe network was made aware of the viral song, and unsolicited, played the song on the afternoon show on January 31.
“Never in the 40 years that KLOVE has existed [has this] “It’s never happened before,” K-LOVE host Scott Smith revealed before he and co-host Kelli Caldwell performed the song. Katy’s full introduction and raw emotional excitement were captured on video and posted to her social media. The video has since received over 2.3 million views, 381,000 likes, and 14,000 comments and shares on Tick Tock and another 1.8 million views, 59,000 likes and 14,000 shares on K-LOVE Facebook page.
Following K-LOVE’s lead, Air1 Radio Network and many other outlets have added the song to rotation nationwide, making it the most added single to Christian AC radio this week. Debuting at #26 on Billboard’s National Christian Airplay (NCA) Monitored chart, people around the world are hearing Katy’s song and telling their own heartwarming, often heartbreaking, stories. Each story branches into a series of new actions that continue to branch out virally. Over 6,000+ examples of this can be seen now on Tick Tock.
Before writing “In the Name of Jesus (God of the Possible)“Katy was diagnosed with scoliosis and underwent surgery to straighten her spine, which resulted in persistent post-surgery pain that sent her into a mental and emotional spiral of bedridden. Three years later, Katy returned for surgery to essentially remove the metal rods and screws that had been placed in her back.
“I go into the second surgery, and I come out, and the smoke of depression is gone. I met the Lord at that moment,” Katy recalls. “When I got my X-rays after surgery, my spine was actually straighter than when the rods were in it. So when I say God can do miracles, I mean it, because I’ve seen it.”
As an ambassador for Shriners Hospitals for Children and a volunteer with Musicians on Call, her recovery has also inspired her to advocate for others facing health challenges. It has also given her a new direction for her music and her life.
“There is no story that doesn’t matter to God. Every story was written by Him, and He is the greatest author of all time,” Katy says. “God healed me, so I know He can heal someone else. I’m going to share my story and hopefully it will encourage others to go and share theirs.”
While her debut single is a ready-made worship anthem for rooms full of people to sing along to, it only reveals one side of this multidimensional artist who is now working on her debut album, once again drawing from her journal and her many life experiences.
