In honor of Black History Month, British singer/songwriter Junior Garr has announced a spectacular performance to celebrate black music and culture. Junior has reimagined the spiritual hymn “Wade in the Water,” for a performance that will feature a gospel choir that can only be compared to the likes of Kanye West’s Sunday Service.
London-based Junior Garr is an artist who combines his passion for creativity, culture, music and art with his fervent faith. This visual performance for Black History Month follows the highly successful release of his EP ‘The Garden’ whose single ‘Waters’ has already reached 2 million streams on Spotify in just one year.
The “Black Lives Matter” protests earlier this year proved the need to hear positive voices and shed more light amidst the turbulent circumstances that have surrounded the news over the past few months. Because of this, Junior Garr was inspired to bring people together to raise their voices in unity and celebrate Black lives, both historical and current.
Junior, commenting on the project, said: “This is a collection of spirituals and Negro songs that have inspired and championed history and the history of Black people. With everything going on in the world today, there has never been a better time for the power of music to bring us together. This is a commemoration not only of our breakthrough and accomplishments, but also a recognition of the ongoing pain and heartache that Black people experience today.”
“We have to find a way to foster and fight for justice and equality for Black people everywhere. That’s something we can connect with in our calling as believers of the gospel that is the good news. Justice and the good news go hand in hand,” he continued.
