Accomplished singer, songwriter, husband and father of 10 children, John Waller release his Parade And American singer-songwriter– premiered the single “What My Father Does” today at digital and streaming outlets everywhere. A catchy anthem leading into Father’s Day weekend 2021, the song features the recording and video debut of Waller’s 16-year-old daughter, Sophee Waller, and will appear on Waller’s sixth studio album, A Family Thing, due out this fall.
Teaming up with longtime friend, radio personality and video director Bill Sammons, John and Sophee traveled to Rehoboth Beach, DE to record a live video performance of “What My Father Does” with a full studio orchestra.
“This uplifting anthem presents a positive, global message and the pair combine fantastic vocals for a showcase of spirit,” said Parade in today’s video premiere. “The video captures all that energy with a beautiful representation of love and support.”
“I’ve done quite a few videos over the years and I have to say this was the most enjoyable experience for me so far,” John shares. “Just watching Sophee beam on camera and interacting with her as my daughter and capturing the true emotion of how I feel about her as my beloved child brought me so much joy! I think people are really going to fall in love with this song and especially my daughter Sophee!”
“With a voice that ‘turns most heads,’ the budding artist adds lightness to his father’s verified vocal strength,” says American singer-songwriter in his audio premiere of the song earlier this week.
“I’ve spent most of my life on the road with my dad,” Sophee adds in American Songwriter. “I love the scenes and the experiences I had growing up. Being in the studio with my dad, it really feels like what I’m supposed to do. And it was just a lot of fun, a good bonding experience for us.”
Shifting from an ethereal piano ambience to a triumphant, powerful expression filled with a full string orchestra and anchored by father/daughter harmonies, “What My Father Does” poetically captures the inspiring truth of the gospel. The song and the entire new album revolve around God’s unequivocal, undeserved love. “My sins don’t reject Him, and my accomplishments don’t justify Him,” John says. “I see that more clearly today than ever, and the freedom that comes from it is overwhelming. That’s how I love my children, and that’s how God loves His own. That’s what my Father does.”
The Waller family story, like most people’s, is one of steady trajectory, but with hundreds of unexpected rabbit trails to places they never anticipated. One such trail took the family to Ukraine where they adopted three siblings who are now an integral part of the Waller family. Other trails included the family moving across the country for a time in local church ministry, which taught them to slow down to catch up with God.
Now back in his hometown of Senoia, Georgia, Waller feels he is making the best music of his life and is writing lyrics that come from deeply personal encounters with God and time spent with his family.
“It’s different now,” Waller says. “I’m writing from a different place, and with a sense that God is really going to use this music to minister to moms and dads and families, like He did to our family.”
The new song follows Waller’s first new radio single in over two years, “But God.” The song, originally released on Radiate Music this spring, will appear on the upcoming album, which will be released independently.
Known for such inspiring hit singles as “Crazy Faith” (featured in the hit movie War Room), “while i wait» (featured in the #1 independent film of 2008 Fireproof), «As for me and my house“Awakening (aka the coffee song)” and many others, Waller has continually used his gifts as a singer and songwriter to inspire, educate and encourage people from all walks of life.
