Bodie: From secular success to the spiritual call, the journey of an American artist
On September 3, 2025, Bodie Kuljian, American singer and composer, formalized in The Christian Post his transition to contemporary Christian music (CCM) after a deep personal and spiritual journey. Known by the stage name “Bodie”, he first distinguished himself in the secular musical sphere while already being a committed Christian and leader of praise at Oceans Church in Irvine, California.
An artist’s journey between two worlds
Bodie leads a double artistic life from his beginnings: in parallel with his responsibilities of praise at the Oceans church, he composes, interpreted and produced as an independent solo artist on the American scene. Not a member of a fixed group, he built his audience by participating in season 22 of “The Voice” on NBC (2022), accessing the final and affecting millions of viewers. This gives him a remarkable national audience, which he continues to cultivate via the release of songs broadcast on radio, with in particular more than 23 million streams for “Whisper and the Wind”, also Grand Prix of the International Songwriting Competition and classified Top 10 Billboard Airplay.
Bodie had no major contract or a regular group as a secular artist. He evolved as a solo artist, performing through the United States, broadcasting several titles on platforms, and gaining reputation thanks to his compositions and scenic performances, supported by a strong presence on social networks and during tours like the “Murder My Ego Tour”. He accumulated this activity and his role as a leader in praise in Oceans Church.
Although Bodie has always been Christian and active in the ministry of praise, her official decision to switch her entire career to the CCM only caught up in 2025, after several months of reflections, doubts, and a strong moment of prayer where he says he heard the call of the Holy Spirit. Before that, he also wrote songs for the general market, and almost 60 to 70 % of the titles of his album “No Skips” come from various inspirations, written before its formal decision. The release of “Whisper and the Wind” therefore precedes its public declaration, which means that it was active Christian while writing and producing secular music until the providential signing with the Christian label Sony Provident.
Bodie had acquired a real notoriety thanks to her participation in The Voice, her high streams, the recognition of songs in competition, and collaborations on stage with leading artists (Rhythm elevation, Seph Schlueter, etc.). His popularity as a solo artist was therefore real before his consecration in Christian music.
Bodie’s trajectory is that of an artist who, despite the fear of losing part of his audience by displaying his faith, chooses to fully assume his personal convictions from 2025, putting his career in the hands of God. It thus illustrates the capacity to reconcile artistic authenticity, professional success and spiritual commitment, offering a model of coherence and loyalty to its values.
