CDX Records/Sony Orchard artist Doug Mathis proves his staying power with his fourth number one hit on the TRAction Positive Country and Southern Gospel charts this week with “God’s Got a Plan.”
Mathis says, “’God’s Got a Plan’ is such an important song for our times because I know that God has a plan for our lives, for our communities, for our churches, and for this great nation. We must pray in God’s plan, and believe in God’s plan, and sing God’s plan every chance we get! »
Mathis continues his chart-topping streak that has included “When He Calls My Name,” “Love Somebody” and “King of Love.” The Knoxville, Tennessee native repeatedly demonstrates that powerful vocals, coupled with great songs with a powerful message, are sure winners with his growing legion of fans. These professional achievements are even more significant because TRACTION is the only monitored radio chart in the Positive Country and Southern Gospel formats whose rotations are based on unreported actual broadcast detections or predicted readings that have historically been inaccurate.
Mathis has been immersed in music for most of his life. Growing up singing in church, he began writing songs at the age of eight. As a senior in high school, he auditioned to be a performer at Opryland USA. He began performing at the legendary theme park on the “Country Music USA” show, singing a wide variety of songs by artists such as Roy Acuff, John Denver and Kenny Rogers. Three years later, he became the lead singer of “The Cumberland Boys,” Opryland’s gospel quartet, with whom he toured across the country for four years. After his time at the theme park, Mathis became senior pastor and minister of music at several churches across the South before returning to his performing career full-time.
Mathis’ style is passionate, patriotic and spiritual. The importance of his music revolves around his desire to connect people to the most meaningful things in life: faith, family and country.
