A historic first at the National Baptist Convention USA: female leadership and renewal
From September 8 to 11, 2025, the city of Kansas City, Missouri, welcomed the 145ᵉ Annual session of the National Baptist Convention USA, the largest Baptist religious organization in the United States, founded in 1895. This event, bringing together thousands of pastors, families and militants around debates on religious and social news each year, marked a decisive turning point by offering for the very first time. Pasteur woman, the Reverend Tracey L. Brown.
63 years old, Tracey L. Brown directs the Ruth Fellowship Ministry in Plainfield, New Jersey, and distinguished herself as a pioneer by becoming the first moderator of the Middlesex Central Baptist Association and the first woman in the police of the state of the New Jersey. His preaching of Tuesday, September 9, 2025 symbolizes the mobilization in favor of the inclusion, social justice and the advent of female leadership in the American Baptist Church.
This change was motivated by a strong desire for the new president, the pastor Boisse Kimber, to align the Convention on current expectations: inclusion of women and young people, community commitment, renewal of governance and fight against all forms of discrimination. This strategy aims to respond to American social reality, where claims for more equality and justice are omnipresent, including in religious circles. Members, young people and many progressive pastors have argued this development, considering that living faith must integrate civic commitment and recognition of the female role in the Church.
The central message of this annual session is not limited to the pioneering preaching of the Reverend Brown: it relates more broadly to the revival of leadership within the Convention, the affirmation of the right of women to join the decision -making spheres, and the imperative need to translate the Christian faith in concrete action against all forms of exclusion. By this advance, the National Baptist Convention USA has its anchoring in history, while affirming its ability to evolve and inspire future generations.
