Faith that is not tested is faith that cannot be trusted. .
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, [a] whenever you face trials of all kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. –James 1:2-3
Things of value are often tested to prove that they are authentic. When you go to the bank and give the teller a $100 bill, she holds it up to the light. For what? Because it’s looking for a watermark of authenticity, testing it to make sure it’s genuine.
A pastor shares that when he visited the Philippines years ago, the government did not yet have the technology to add watermarks to currency. So instead, bank tellers would hold the money near the light and then examine the images that were printed on them.
This priest was curious, so he had the nerve to ask a bank teller how to know the money is real by looking at it. The cashier told him that if the hair of the man pictured on the coin is not combed perfectly, then the dollar is counterfeit.
Things of value must be tested – and that includes your faith. When God allows challenges to come your way – whether it’s your health, your grief, or your financial difficulties – He holds you up to the light to show the world that your faith is genuine.
Faith that is not tested is faith that cannot be trusted. So when you are tested, let God’s light shine through you so the world can see His mark on your life!
