On the 2021 Year-End Gospel Airplay Chart, “Standing Up” Appears at No. 8; Ranks at No. 10 on the 2021 Year-End Gospel Artists AirPlay Chart
ATLANTA, GA (December 20, 2021) – – – GRAMMY Award winner, songwriter, soul singer and activist Damon Little’s current radio single “Stand Up” hits No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel AirPlay chart this week. Powered by radio promotion company By Any Means Necessary, the emotionally charged song has spent 44 weeks in the Top 30, making it the longest-running radio single of 2021 on Billboard’s Gospel AirPlay chart. Additionally, “Stand Up” ranks No. 8 on the 2021 Year-End Gospel AirPlay chart and Little ranks No. 10 on the 2021 Year-End Gospel AirPlay Artists chart.
On October 19, 2021, the Baltimore native premiered his highly anticipated seven-and-a-half-minute conceptual music video for “Stand Up.” The powerful visuals that comprise the “Stand Up” video emphasize classic concepts and themes of the civil rights movement, including one of the most famous sites in civil rights history: the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, where in March 1965, peaceful protesters were attacked by police enforcing segregation. Half a century later, Little takes to the bridge with a group of marchers and holds his own celebration—and reminds us all how far we still have to go. He also provided us with plenty of Selma footage, including nighttime shots of the abandoned Washington Street Supermarket, the towering Dallas County Courthouse, and the movable plaques of Civil Rights Memorial Park. When Little stands before a judge and defends a client beaten by cops, his call for justice resonates throughout the legendary city.
“Stand Up” is a call for unity, equality and compassion – a firm, friendly handshake offered to humanity in the name of God. Little has always placed advocacy at the heart of his project, speaking out for civil rights and universal brotherhood, and promoting awareness and education about ostomies, a medical condition that affects half a million Americans. The new song follows the artist’s extraordinary string of gospel hits, which include the provocative “I Won’t Be Defeated,” the prayerful “Because Of You,” the heartfelt “Be Alright” and many others. Released on February 5 via Little World Music/Partners Music, “Stand Up” is produced by Bubby Fann and Damon Little, who is also credited as the song’s sole songwriter.
Hailed with a warm reception from music critics across the country, the miniature film continues to receive rave reviews:
There’s no dismissing this as amateurish; this single is cut from an iconic cloth ~ Michael Stover, musicexistence.com
Damon Little sings “Stand Up” with lyrics that sound like late ’60s message music and an arrangement that evokes ’70s Al Green ~ Robert Marovich, Journal Of Gospel Music
Little exudes a surplus of warmth and positive energy, singing and testifying with a voice that evokes Sunday service, a smoky jazz club, and the soul classics of Al Green and the Spinners. ~ Jerry Doby, TheHypeMagazine
He literally rides the beat, and while that gives this track a more R&B aesthetic than some gospel purists might be comfortable with, that’s precisely what’s going to get this player even more attention than he would have otherwise received. ~ Mindy McCall, IndiePulse Music Magazine
