Understanding Weaponization of Marriage in Modern Christianity
Kirk Franklin the famous gospel singer, spoke out about the weaponization of certain concepts in Christianity, including marriage and giving. According to him, this weapon distracts believers from the true will of God and locks them into human dogmas.
The gospel artist, Kirk Franklin deplores that some young people are prevented from preaching in churches because of their marital status. He explains that this situation stems from the way in which society and families contribute to the weaponization of marriage.
“I believe that marriage, giving and sexuality have been weaponized in Western Christianity,” he said.
He also points out the pressure on single women, especially in family settings. “Any woman listening to this can attest to our culture: ‘Don’t be a single black woman in your 30s or 35s and go to the family reunion.’ All the older women will look at you and say, ‘Why aren’t you married?’”
Kirk points out that these messages are dysfunctional and superficial, adding that the apostle Paul himself saw marriage as a necessary distraction. He recounts that some of his friends in church ministries were told to marry if they wanted to continue preaching, which led them to marry quickly, believing they were following God’s will when they were actually following human dogma.
“You can be single and be used by God. You can be single and have a purpose. Being married is not a prerequisite for God’s hand to be on your life. It’s not. But we’ve weaponized it. And they crucify people when those same marriages fail.”
