The 10 commandments of Pascal Obispo canceled: what happened?

Share

The musical “The 10 commandments: the desire to love”, produced by Pascal Obispo and scheduled for a large tour in France between November 2025 and February 2026, was officially canceled. The announcement was made on September 2, 2025 on several specialized platforms, including Evangeliques.info, thus confirming the freshness of this news.

The cause?

According to the press release relayed by production and by partner rooms, the main cause is “impossibility of finding a viable economic model”. More specifically, the operation experienced “too large losses from the first representations”, making the continuity of the tour unbearable despite the 29 dates planned and a solid organization. There is no mention of an absence or an explicit refusal of public subsidies, but the formulation evokes a complex context where profitability, preventing tickets and the expected investments were not there.

The evangelical community, directly concerned by the development of the Protestant heritage during the Heritage Days, did not disseminate an official position specific to this cancellation. However, this setback recalls the structural difficulty in promoting major confessional cultural projects in the face of current economic realities. The expectations were strong in supporters of the show and the Evangelical Christian public, who see in this cancellation a failed opportunity of enlarged cultural visibility.

Other difficulties affected the project?

The show had also been the subject of a legal conflict: Elie Chouraqui, director of the original version of 2000, had attacked Pascal Obispo in justice for “counterfeiting”, “parasitism” and “unfair competition”. Justice dismissed Chouraqui, sentenced to first instance to pay compensation, but this procedure accompanied an atmosphere of uncertainty around the recovery.

Back on the history of the show

Created in 2000, “The 10 commandments” was a huge success, with 1.8 million spectators and more than 1.5 million albums sold. The new version of 2024, carried by Pascal Obispo, intended to capitalize on this prestige. Despite a careful launch and sustained media coverage, the costs could not be covered by the expected recipes.

The sale of tickets was immediately arrested and all holders of a ticket are invited to request a refund from their point of sale.
