Andreas Wenzel elected president of the European Evangelical Alliance: new breath for continental leadership
On September 17, 2025, during a hybrid meeting held at Bar, Montenegro, the European Evangelical Alliance (AEE) formalized the election of Andreas Wenzel (Germany) as a new president, succeeding the Austrian Frank Hinkelmann, who completed twelve years of service and three terms. This event brings together a wide range of managers and members of the AEE, present on site and online, marking a strategic award for the European Evangelical Movement.
Andreas Wenzel, member of the board of directors since 2017 and director of Word of Life Europe, embodies the new generation of evangelical leaders. Committed since 1990, he worked in youth, training and evangelization, in particular by innovative initiatives to transmit faith to young people in eighteen European countries. His arrival is praised as a “new breath, rooted in the scriptures, to unite and strengthen the evangelical family”, according to Jan Wessels, secretary general of the AEE.
The presidency transition reflects the historical and theological commitment of Frank Hinkelmann, recognized for his vision, his deepening of the history of evangelical Christianity and the defense of unity. The AEE thus continues its mission: representing more than 23 million evangelicals in 35 countries, promoting collaboration, supporting religious freedom and supporting national alliances in social issues.
This event, organized in Montenegro and relayed on social networks and official sites, is a major milestone for the European evangelical movement, while the organization is working to renew its mission, strengthen transnational links and send contemporary challenges by concerted actions with member churches.
