Kinshasa: Mike Kalambayi Concert and Judicial Investigation

The Kinshasa/Gombe High Court prosecutor’s office began the pre-trial investigation into the concert by Mike Kalambayi on Wednesday, July 31. On the instructions of the Minister of Justice, two alleged perpetrators of involuntary manslaughter and bodily harm were arrested on Tuesday.

They are journalist Joël Cadet Ndanga, in charge of communication for the event, and artist Aristote Nzuzi, technical director of the company The latter appeared this Wednesday. The prosecution accuses them of multiple negligence in the organization of the concert of July 27 at the Martyrs stadium, negligence which allegedly led to the death of nine people and several injuries.

Among the accusations, the organizers are accused of not respecting the stadium’s capacity, limited to 80,000 seats, and of not having taken the necessary measures to ensure security inside the stadium, with external security being the responsibility of the police. The justice system is seeking answers on these points in the coming days. This tragic event has raised many questions about the management of security at large gatherings.
