Justin Peters, Jim Osman, Michael Brown and Sam Storms: A Dialogue on Christian Television and Theology
Religious leaders from different theological backgrounds have taken a stand on the complexities of television Christian and on the controversial prosperity gospel as part of a broader discussion about the critical role of discernment in ministry.
In a four-hour panel discussion, Justin Peters, leader of Justin Peters Ministries, and Jim Osman, author and pastor of Kootenai Community Church, discussed the issue with Michael Brown, host of the Line of Fire podcast, and Sam Storms , pastor emeritus of Bridgeway Church in Oklahoma City.
One of the key points raised was the nature of television networks Christians like Trinity Broadcasting Network and Daystar, with Osman noting: It’s all just a simple matter of supply and demand… Whatever the demand is, that’s what they’re going to provide. This observation has sparked broader reflection on the state of the theologically weak American Church, with concerns expressed about its depth across different denominations, not just in charismatic circles.
Leaders expressed concern about the potential for deception and harm posed by erroneous teachings and stressed the importance of anchoring faith Christian and practice in solid doctrine. However, they also called for grace and patience in dealing with theological disagreements. The conversation concluded with a call for greater discretion and accountability among leaders Christians and media consumers.
