Today, thesongwriter-country singer Jenna Torres releases second single, “Just a mountain” from her upcoming album, the follow-up to 2021’s critically acclaimed All Heart. The uplifting single explores how we deal with seemingly insurmountable obstacles like heartbreak, depression, and tough times. Jenna’s message: keep going.
“Every mountain looks huge from the bottom, but it gets smaller as you reach the top,” she says. “I know how difficult life can be – I’ve been through some very difficult times myself. I learned that you can’t let bad things be the end of you. This can’t be your last job, your last boyfriend, your last injury, your last breath. They’re just mountains, and every mountain requires us to put one foot in front of the other and climb.
“Just A Mountain” hits that sweet spot between an intimately reflective ballad and a catchy, you-can-do anthem. It features Jenna’s dynamically expressive vocals that range from comforting soft tones to soaring emotion. The track also features country fixings such as lyrical mandolin melodies, back-porch acoustic guitar, and delicate layers of upbeat ethereal ambience.
The idea for the song started with a refrain that Jenna had carried with her for a while – that of getting through painful moments in everyday life. She eventually completed the song, co-writing with the extraordinary songwriter and guitarist Brad Sample (Alice Cooper, Maggie Rose, Randy Houser). Torres composed “Just A Mountain” at Forty-one Fifteen Studios in Nashville, collaborating with Charlie Chamberlain, Irakli Gabriel and an incredible lineup of Nashville-based musicians and friends.
The song’s poignant accompanying video features a moving performance from the prolific songwriter-American performer Rod Picott, based in Nashville. Here, dark scenes of Rod mired in depression contrast with images of breathtaking mountaintop landscapes, evocative images of Jenna performing the song in a beautiful park, as well as angelic apparitions as she encourages him to continue. In the end, darkness gives way to light…
