Jean Enock Louis, Singer by passion,

pastor by vocation…

He is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful male voices of this generation of music singers . Very simple in everyday life and on stage, he has increasingly attracted the spotlight since his return to the stage, after a long period of silence. Since then, Jean Enock Louis has gone back and forth between music and pastoral ministry. An incessant fight and difficult for the one who was rewarded by Haiti Adoration just this past weekend as “male voice of the year” and whose song “Tou piti devan w” was crowned song of the year 2013 at the award Hallelujah FM.

Jean Enock Louis, who some wrongly call “Enock Jean-Louis”, is from Pétion-Villois. Born on September 27, 1980 in a Christian family, he is the son and grandson of pastors. At the age of four, his parents made him repeat with gestures every Sunday after worship, all the songs performed during the service. This is how he started chirping his first notes. But his musical career really began in 1990 when he joined the group “Etoiles Brillantes” of which he was the youngest musician at the time. A significant experience for Enock, so much so that he still remembers their first performances, on Place Boyer during a crusade in 1992. A few years later, the Stars stopped shining, but Enock himself did not didn’t stop. He joined Rapha, then El Shaddai Vision, an a cappella group in 1995 and with whom he made an album. This group, once rendered obsolete, at the request of maestro Joseph Pierre, the young Enock joined Harmonie de , transformed into Teknon-vox. With Teknon, he recorded an album and sang several hit songs like “Mèsi Papa”. “San sa-a”, to finally become its maestro for 6 years. We must also mention his lightning stints in renowned groups like Eben-Ezer, Alabanza. But Pastor Enock experienced his first big success in 2003 at Telemax’s Konkou Chante Nwèl, winning first prize. It was the trigger that allowed him to launch a solo career after having lent his voice to all these groups.

Enock is a true music lover. Shy by temperament, music allows him to express himself. “Fè mizik se youn nan bagay m fè pi byen nan lavi m”, he admits. He puts his soul, his time and his means into it. He also plays drums and piano. An asset for his musical compositions. Speaking of composition, the young pastor already has two albums to his credit: “San rankin” released in 2004 and “Yeshua” released in 2013. You can see, there is a big gap between the first and second disc of the artist. In the interval of this forced retreat taken in relation to a decline in speed, evangelical activities and the rise, according to him, of new trends such as rabòday, many things happened in the life of the singer with the muffled and flowing. He got married, had his first, second, third job, became the father of two boys, and recorded an album with the group CAD (Cooperation of Artists for Development) of which he is still a member. An accountant by profession, he earns his living with dignity as head of a section in one of the country’s companies.

Pastor, beyond resistance…

Jean Enock grew up with the Eben-Ezer Church of God in Péguy-Ville where his grandfather was the titular pastor. After the latter’s death, dissatisfied and opposed to the way his successors directed the work, he divorced from the assembly. This lasted 12 years. But worse, he began to develop a very critical posture and discourse towards pastors in general, in reference to the excesses of certain shepherds, without knowing that he himself was going to be called to this ministry. , noble in spite of everything. A first revelation had already been made to him when he was maestro of Teknon Vox. However, he did not take seriously this prophecy announced by a sister of the church. He was especially motivated by music, since he had no shortage of talent in this area. On the other hand, being a pastor for Enock could have been seen as a scandal, a handover between grandfather and grandson. But, after 12 years of abandonment, the church that saw him sing his first musical notes needed him, not as a musician, but as a shepherd. His resistance therefore proved to be zero, after several signs and revelations which confirmed God’s plan for his life. Ordained since 2011 as the 6th titular pastor of this same assembly of 300 members since the death of his grandfather, he is surrounded by several other collaborators, including his father, also a pastor, who gives him advice from the USA where he lives .

Being a pastor, according to Enock

A pastor is only a servant, contrary to what some think, explains the man of God. This is a very fragile task. Unless you’re a mercenary, you really have to be called up to stay there. “I don’t want to be more than a servant,” Enock wishes. Like Jesus who merged with his disciples. Today, we are witnessing a leveling, a categorization of the title of pastor in practice and the types of relationships maintained with the faithful and even with other pastors. “Tou piti devan w”, Jean Enock’s latest hit, is both a revelation, a message to all “super Christians” or “super pastors”, but also and above all an anthem.

Even today, faced with certain difficulties encountered in the work, Enock often comes close to giving up. But God reminds him each time that his place is before the flocks to guide them. But he still has one small detail to resolve: the dilemma of a life as a singer solicited here and there for performances and that of a consecrated pastor. This enigma, according to Jean Enock, only God can solve. With new songs in his drawer for a third album, he still hesitates in the face of 300 sheep who need their shepherd regularly. Balancing the two isn’t as easy either. When in doubt, the pastor prays.
