Fair Trade Service artist Jack Cassidy made two TV appearances this week to share his personal and vulgar story of overcoming addiction, which is also the inspiration for his current single, “Run At The Giant.”
On Monday, the singer/songwriter made a special appearance on The Doctors, sharing his personal story of how addiction nearly took his life and how, after an overdose, he asked God for help and was able to quit cold turkey. Check out the episode here.
Later in the week, Cassidy was interviewed on the new JUCE TV show Kingdom Thinking, where he shared even more about overcoming drug use, depression and beyond during a special series on Faith & Mental Health. That episode can be seen below
While “Run At The Giant” may be her debut single, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter was also a contestant on The Voice in 2017 on Team Alicia Keys and has had music in her blood since the day she was born. Her grandmother (Shirley Jones) was the mother of the Partridge family and an Academy Award-winning actress, while her uncles (David and Shaun Cassidy) were both teenage pop stars. Cassidy’s parents also had active careers in show business for many years.
Life was not easy behind the scenes for most of his family, including his uncle David in particular, who had an ongoing problem with alcoholism that eventually led to his untimely death at age 67. Cassidy saw many of his choices lead him in that same direction, constantly battling depression and anxiety that led to a desire to self-medicate and numb the pain, and eventually a severe addiction.
“One night, in the middle of an overdose, I felt like I was going to have a heart attack,” he recalled. “I got on my knees and begged God to save me and keep me alive. I firmly believe that God is the only reason I got through that night. I have been sober for many years now. That is when I truly came to know the peace of who God is and I live for that now. Like the story of David and Goliath in the Bible, with God’s help, the Giant got his ass kicked. I really hope that when you listen to this song, you will think about its meaning and it can encourage you to overcome the giants in your life.”
