Despite the difficulties and trials we experience in our lives, the Bible exhorts us to be more than conquerors in all these things.
Romans 8:37
37 But in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
Sometimes the situations we find ourselves in seem so bleak that we have difficulty knowing how we can emerge victorious. A striking example of this is found in the experience of those twelve spies whom Moses sent to the promised land, in order to establish a strategy for taking possession of the land. But, as we know, except for Joshua and Caleb, the others came back with a negative report saying:
1. We cannot rise against this people
2. It is a country that devours its inhabitants
3. We saw that they were men of great height and giants
4. We were like locusts in their eyes
Following this negative report, the people turned back and wandered in the desert for forty years.
Numbers 13:25-33
25 They returned from exploring the land after forty days. 26 When they came, they went to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, to Kadesh in the wilderness of Paran. They reported to them and to all the assembly, and showed them the fruits of the land. Read more
They were impressed by what they SAW, and they concluded that they COULD NOT OVERCOME. We are not to walk by SIGHT, but by FAITH (2 Corinthians 5:7).
In order to walk by faith and become more than conquerors, we must understand the three essential phases of victory:
1. Understanding
2. Confession
3. Possession
First of all, we must understand that victory has already been won through the Lord Jesus Christ and we must simply apply it in our lives (2 Corinthians 2:14; 1 Corinthians 15:57; Philippians 4:13). .
Then we must confess this victory BEFORE we possess it. In the Bible, there are many examples of the importance of our words (2 Corinthians 4:13; Matthew 12:37; 2 Kings chapter 7:1 Samuel 17:46).
Finally, the third phase is taking possession of victory. We often neglect to take ownership of what Christ accomplished for us on the cross. Even after taking possession of the promised land, Joshua was obliged to exhort the people, saying:
Joshua 18:3
3 Joshua said to the children of Israel, How long will you neglect to possess the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you?
In conclusion, let us remember these words of exhortation:
Hebrews 6:11-12
11 We desire that each of you show the same zeal to maintain full hope until the end, 12 so that you do not lose heart, but imitate those who through faith and perseverance inherit the promises.
