Gospel Kreyol, its history

Published on

» is a choir which proclaims the Gospel (Gospel) with a Creole tint (verbal expression, original arrangements etc…)

The choir ” » is the culmination of a choral suite. Indeed, in the year 1981, there was talk of a group called “Technophile”, composed of approximately sixteen (16) people, accompanied by talented musicians such as: Marc Hendel Jérôme on Keybord and Macarios Césaire on guitar.

Two years later Welmyr Jean Pierre and I, Dr Greger Figaro, formed the group “AD libitum gospel”, performing Negro-spiritual and traditional gospel.

In 1990, a talented pianist friend: Lévy Alexandre, told me of his intention to form a “Mass Choir”. Through our efforts, we brought together approximately sixty (60) choristers divided into soprano, alto, tenor, hence the formation of a large choir called “Gospel Choir”. Over time, the number of choir members dwindled, many leaving for foreign countries and some for other projects.

When our pianist left in 1995, we chose to keep the best singers and breathe new life by changing the name of the choir to “ “.

The choir ” » today has around forty (40) choristers under its belt, they are recruited according to the needs of the choir from the following stages:

Applicant’s request
Evaluation at the musical level, voice etc.
Obligation to follow choir rehearsal sessions for a certain period.
Admission by the committee after signing the member’s membership form.

The choir ” » is very grateful to the Church of the Adventist University of Haiti (UNAH), moreover, this is the place where it was born. As for now it is linked to the Adventist Church of Gilead, located in Diquini 63.

Among the soloists performing on the first album titled “Glwa ak Louwanj” we include: Paul-Emma Jean, Fernelle Pierre, Fenelus Sheelove, Danie Eloi, Moncoeur Rebecca, Cassandra Ordalus, Misère Jean Mary, Harry Doleyres, Greger Figaro to name but a few those.

Rehearsal location adopted by the group »: 11, corner of Merveille and Tunnel streets, (at the Maestro, Founder, Dr Greger Figaro).

It should also be noted that the group “ » faces a very big obstacle which is that of migration, the exodus of the members of the group abroad, which always leads the Maestro towards a perpetual starting again to maintain and preserve the level of the group.

The “Gospel Kreyol” group, as the Maestro often says, is considered a lifeline for all its members. The atmosphere there is healthy and warm.

The main objective of the “Gospel Kreyol” group is the preaching of the gospel through songs, and also the opportunity to raise to God accents of praise and gratitude, to thank Him for all that He is. and did for us who are his children.
