We The Kingdom’s Franni Rae Cash Cain has spoken publicly about her mental health for the first time, generously sharing both her vulnerability and her encouragement.
The singer-songwriter recounted a dark time in her life when she suffered spiritual abuse, which she dealt with by self-harming. Depression and anxiety followed. But as Franni shared in an honest conversation on the Trevor Talks podcast, “where the enemy attacks us the most, that’s where God wants to use us the most.”
Ultimately, Franni’s journey to healing came through spending time immersed in God’s presence and through the support of her band members, who also happen to be her family. The result has been a consistent focus for We The Kingdom on caring for each other’s well-being. The band even goes to counseling together. It’s a goal that sustains Franni even during the touring process, which she candidly reveals can often be much more difficult than people realize. For Franni, she’s come to recognize her anxious thoughts as warning signs, addressing those thoughts before they take over.
“I learn healthy rhythms so that it doesn’t feel like this crazy thing is taking over my life, but to keep an eye on it,” Franni says. “I give myself grace, I learn these rhythms to stay healthy.”
We The Kingdom recently released their latest album, a live project called Live At Ocean Way Nashville. Franni Rae Cash Cain is part of We The Kingdom alongside her father Ed Cash, brother Martin Cash, uncle Scott Cash and longtime friend Andrew Bergthold.
