THE Jesus exhortations are powerful calls to faith, repentance, and life in accordance with the values of the Kingdom of God. They include lessons like the Mountain sermon (Matthew 5-7), The call to love his enemies (Matthieu 5:44), and the invitation to take his cross and follow him (Marc 8:34).
Jesus sends his exhortations to several groups:
The disciplesto guide them in their faith (ex. Matthew 16:24).
The crowdsto invite them to turn to God (eg Matthew 5: 1-12).
Opponentslike the Pharisees, to denounce hypocrisy (eg Matthew 23: 13-36).
Jesus exhorts for several reasons:
Call to repentance : Change your life and get closer to God (Matthew 4:17).
Encouragement to persevere : Stay faithful to the tests (John 15: 4-5).
Behavior correction : Denounce hypocrisy and promote authentic justice (Matthew 23: 25-28).
Jesus urged the following moments:
During his land ministry, especially during the mountain sermon (Matthew 5–7).
Before his crucifixion, to prepare his disciples (John 14–16).
After his resurrection, by sending his disciples on a mission (Matthew 28: 18-20).
In the Mountain sermon : “Happy those who are hungry and thirst for justice” (Matthew 5: 6).
To the disciples: “Stay in me, and I will remain in you” (John 15: 4).
At the Church of Ephesus: “Repens yourself, and practice your first works” (Apocalypse 2: 5).
