Evvie McKinney Banks on Her First No. 1 Billboard’s Gospel Broadcast chart as “Just Like God” reached the top of the September 11 list during its 30th week on the chart.
“To finally see my first gospel radio single hit No. 1 is almost indescribable to me,” McKinney told Billboard.
During the tracking week ending September 5, Evvie McKinney’s single “Just Like God” increased 12% in streams, according to MRC Data.
The 24-year-old from Memphis co-wrote “Just Like God” with Paul Duncan and Jamie Moore.
“After two years of writing and recording during the pandemic, to finally see my first gospel radio single hit No. 1 is almost indescribable to me,” McKinney told Billboard. “I wrote ‘Just Like God’ to express from my heart: While I try to never be surprised by what God does, I always want to be in awe of Him doing it. A huge thank you to all the radio programmers and music directors who make it possible for my music to be heard.”
“We are thrilled to have a first No. 1 gospel radio single from a developing artist on our roster,” said Monica Coates, Motown Gospel Co-Executive Director.
Before “Just Like God,” McKinney’s first single, “Look no further” peaked at No. 2 on the Hot Gospel Songs chart based on streaming, airplay and sales; No. 19 on Christian Airplay; and No. 21 on the multi-metric Hot Christian Songs survey in January-February.
The song was released on Motown Gospel on digital platforms on October 9, 2020.
