Former President Donald Trump has offered his support to the church and its pastor, Robert Jeffress
Dallas Baptist Church has been hit by a devastating fire that gutted the historic sanctuary of First Baptist Church. Presidential candidate, Donald Trump offered his support to the church and its pastor, Robert Jeffress.
Jeffress revealed that Trump sent him a note offering his help after hearing news of the fire. The church, built in 1890, has hosted numerous U.S. presidents over the years, and Trump himself spoke at a service in December 2021.
Despite initial suspicions of arson, investigators said it was too early to draw conclusions. However, they noted that the fire appeared to have started in the basement before spreading to the upper floors. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
The importance of solidarity in adversity
Despite the loss of the historic sanctuary, Pastor Jeffress remains optimistic about the future of the church. He stressed that what really matters is the congregation, not the buildings. The church has already announced that it will hold its Sunday service at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.
The fire has sparked an outpouring of support and prayers from a variety of figures, including U.S. Senator Ted Cruz and theologian Denny Burk. A prominent former member of the church, evangelist Billy Graham, was also mentioned, noting the historical significance of First Baptist Church.
Despite this tragedy, the church remains determined to continue its mission and persevere. The solidarity and faith of the faithful will continue to carry the church through these times.
