“His mother said to the servants, ‘Whatever He tells you to do, do it.’ (John 2:5)
John 2:11
11 This was the first of the miracles that Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee. He manifested his glory, and his disciples believed in him.
Mary knew Jesus like no one else. The Bible does not provide details about Jesus’ childhood, except for his trip to Jerusalem when he was twelve years old. But it is certain that Mary knew that Jesus was not an ordinary man. His request to Jesus to provide the guests with more wine reflects his belief that he could do what no one else could do.
His instructions to his servants were: “Whatever He tells you to do, do it.” This demonstrates that not only did she know that Jesus could perform miracles, but she knew that his way of doing things was not always consistent with conventional thinking. Indeed, Jesus told the servants to fill the vessels with water and then bring them to the governor of the feast. This surpassed logic! Everyone knew the guests wanted more wine, not water. Yet these servants, at Mary’s request, did exactly as Jesus told them and the results were extraordinary. This miracle would not have happened if the servants had not done what seemed foolish to them.
Isaiah 55:8
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
To see His miraculous power in our lives, we must do “whatever He tells us to do,” even if it seems foolish. The foolishness of God is wiser than the wisdom of men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. Today, whatever He tells you to do, do it!
1 Corinthians 1:25
25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
