Discerning Spirits
In an era where pastors, prophets and apostles are multiplying, and where spectacular demonstrations on social networks are proliferating, it becomes crucial to discern the true servants of God from the charlatans. Here are four avenues of verification to discern the true from the false:
Consider the fruit produced by the spirit:
Jesus said: By their fruits you will know them (Matthew 7:16). True spirits of God produce fruits of the Spirit such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
Check the alignment with the Word of God :
Any prophecy or revelation must be in accordance with the Word of God. Isaiah 8:20 says: To the law and to the testimony: if they do not speak thus, there will be no dawn for the people.
Confess Jesus Christ as Lord:
The apostle John gives us a simple test: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not of God (1 John 4:2-3).
Discernment by the Holy Spirit:
THE discernment of spirits is also a gift of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:10). We must pray to receive this discernment and listen to the Holy Spirit.
