Biography of Dena MWANA
The sixth child in a family of eight, Dena Mwana was born Denise Mwanakitata Muwayi on December 27 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. At the age of 13, she made her debut in singing with the “Notre Dame de Grâce” choir in Kinshasa, where she would later become the choir director five years later.
In 2003, Mr. Rigobert Mbila, a Music Professor at the National Arts Institute, suggested that Dena Mwana form her own musical group and launch her career. He assisted her in this project, and thus the musical group Acappela was born in 2004.
In 2006, she immigrated to the United States of America to refine her musical knowledge and advance her career. She settled in Virginia, where she offered her talent to many local churches. This opportunity allowed her to participate in various Christian festivals and concerts.
Since 2008, Dena Mwana has been living between the United States of America and the DRC. She joined the choir of the “Centre Missionnaire Philadelphie,” one of the largest Assemblies of God churches in Kinshasa, where she serves the Lord as a singer. It is within this assembly that she deepened her relationship with God.
Dena Mwana has been credited by many as having one of the unique voices of our time, with a style that transcends all boundaries of race, gender, and social context.

Her musical influences and inspiration stem from her personal experiences with God as well as the everyday experiences of her friends, family, and the societal challenges faced by Christians in her homeland, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and her host country, the United States of America.
In 2009, Dena Mwana began recording the album “Hosanna” between Kinshasa, DRC, and Virginia, USA, with the help of talented musicians.
As a singer-songwriter, her album “Hosanna” was released on May 15, 2011, and has been well-received by Christian communities in Canada, the United States, and the DRC. It is available for legal download on various websites and also in CD format.
Dena Mwana is a happily married woman to her manager for many years, with whom she has three children.
