Genre-defying artist and multi-instrumentalist Crowder took to social media this week to announce that a brand new studio album is in the works! Crowder said the new collection Milk & Honey is set to drop on June 11th. The first taste of Crowder’s new music, “Good God Almighty,” debuted at Passion 2021 and is available for streaming / downloads now. The title “Milk and Honey” is promising. When God brought His people out of Egypt, He led them into the land of Canaan, a land filled with all good things, flowing with milk and honey. But to get there, He led them through the wilderness. Even though they were no longer captives, it would be a long and difficult journey to the promised land. Thankfully, Almighty God in His sovereignty understood how doubt can creep in and how faith in His covenant promise can be eroded and stolen by circumstances and environment. So He constantly reminded them that He was leading and He was with them—fire by night and a cloud by day.
During a season of desolation and wandering, I wrote songs to remind myself that we are going somewhere beyond this—songs that remind me that this is the God of Abraham and Isaac, the God of Jacob, Moses, and David, the God who promised a Savior and a way to Him, He is the One we follow, and He has not left us alone.
Across the desert lies a land of covenant promise – where the blind see, the lame walk, tears are dried, the lamb and the lion are as the best buds and we see face to face the One who created us. . ?
Between captivity and promise, we need to be reminded. We need something to sing, or hear, or touch, or see in the sky—a signal of what the truth of reality is. If we look and are diligently aware, it is all around us—in His holy Scriptures, in His people, in the beauty of this world that He spoke into being, in images as concrete and as simple as a ring you can slip on your finger. to remember: He is God and He is good. ?
This album is a celebration of the future we are walking towards together and a prayer that each of us can live into this promise in the here and now.
