Who is Celigny Dathus?
Celigny Dathus is emerging as a powerful voice within the realm of Christian music, known especially for his interpretations of songs of hope. Born in Haiti on August 2, 1997, tragedy struck early when his loving mother passed away when he was just seven months old. Raised in a Christian family with 11 siblings, Celigny’s journey into music began at a tender age influenced by his brothers, leading him to join the children’s choir at church.
Musical Beginnings: The Growth of a Star
At just 9 years old, Celigny began taking drum lessons and delving deeper into evangelical music. His breakout moment came in 2011 when he joined a rap group at his father’s church in Bon Repos called REMA. It was here that he started performing professionally, gaining recognition for his powerful choruses. His first solo project, “Padon,” released in 2014, significantly impacted the audience of Alleluia FM, positioning him among the notable names in the industry.
Adapting to Change: Leaving for the United States
In 2017, Celigny was featured in the popular musical comedy “Pre Lakwa,” but soon after, his life took a different turn as he moved to the United States in June 2018. This transition left him away from the musical scene temporarily as he navigated a new social landscape. Despite the distance, his love brought him back to Haiti, culminating in his marriage on August 10, 2019, and the birth of their daughter in 2021.
Returning to Music: A Passion Reignited
With every return to Haiti, Celigny’s passion for music blossomed once more. By 2020, he had created a mini-production studio and began focusing on songs of hope, inspired by the works of Élysé Blanc. He has become a trailblazer in bringing a fresh sound that resonates with all demographics, particularly the youth. Celigny emphasizes that the divine inspiration behind the songs of hope remains consistent across both classic and contemporary Christian artists.
Achievements and Future Endeavors: A Path Forward
To date, Celigny has delivered over 150 musical interpretations of songs of hope, continuously engaging audiences across social media platforms. Collaborating with the maestro Dieuverson Thermot from Sound Very Music Haiti, his production process has become more efficient, allowing for a quicker turnaround on new releases. Notably, he meticulously prepares for each performance, ensuring he understands and embodies the emotion of his music.
As Celigny progresses in his career, he has chosen to release singles rather than an album, with recent tracks like “Mwen koube m” in August 2022 and “Priyorite m” in March 2023 making waves. With over 100,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel, his unique musical style combined with his heartfelt lyrics continues to inspire audiences globally.
