This Friday, artist and worship leader Allie Murphy releases “Better Things”, her new single written to encourage mothers like her to find joy in all things, even the most mundane.
Inspired by Ephesians 2:10 and 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12, Murphy originally wrote “Better Things” as a personal cry to God. She felt stuck in the tension between her dreams and callings for both creativity and motherhood for many years. Murphy believes that the small moments in life that lead up to the sometimes exhausting feeling of being a mother can be seen as tender moments raising the future generation and beauty in sacrifice.
“You see, folding laundry and wiping little hands is an act of creation,” Murphy said. “By caring for these souls, I help grow and maintain the Kingdom of God. This is perhaps the greatest creative act I will ever engage in. It is important.
Murphy’s own husband, Mike Murphy, and Blue Sky Studios helped produce the inspirational single. The entire team hopes the song will encourage listeners to choose joy in the best things, diligently pursuing God on the journey He has called them to take.
The days are long and all the years are too easy But life is a dance of choosing joy, no matter what it takes OHHH I’m done chasing the wind, I’m done The best things, I prefer to choose, I prefer to choose I prefer to choose the best things Murphy is excited to release a lyric video full of snippets from the daily life of motherhood. She plans to promote and share her story as a mother and songwriter on all of her existing platforms.
When listeners around the world hear this song, they will be uplifted to see that the little things matter because God sees them, cares about them, and made them that way.
