7 OTHER THINGS ABOUT SEARCHING FOR GOD
1. Before creation, God decided to seek worshipers who would in turn seek him,
will humble themselves, acknowledge and confess their sins, seek forgiveness, actively obey His commandments, and love Him with all their heart, soul, strength, and mind.
We see this in the Old Testament: Deuteronomy 4:29, 1 Chronicles 28:9, 2 Chronicles 15:12, Psalm 63:1 and 119:2, Isaiah 55:6 and 65:1, Jeremiah 29:13, and Zephaniah 2:3.
We also see this in the New Testament: Luke 19:10, John 4:23, Acts 17:27, and Hebrews 11:6.
2. The ancient Israelites sought God by going to the Tabernacle
– and later to the Temple in Jerusalem – to confess their sins, offer sacrifices, pray, then celebrate with family, often with guests.
We see this in Deuteronomy 12:5, 1 Chronicles 22:19, 2 Chronicles 11:16, Psalm 27:4, and Malachi 3:1.
3. To seek God with all your heart is to seek his face.
Seek God, not anyone or anything else, for complete forgiveness, favor, approval, presence, protection and other blessings.
We see this in 1 Chronicles 16:10-11 and Psalm 9:10, 22:26, 24:6, 34:10, 40:16, 69:32 and 70:4.
We also see this in Proverbs 14:32, Lamentations 3:25, Hosea 3:5, Amos 5:14, and Hebrews 11:6.
4. It is important to seek God wholeheartedly,
not only for ourselves, but also for God to bless our community, our city and our country.
We see this in 2 Chronicles 7:14, Jeremiah 29:7 and 50:4, Hosea 10:12, and Zephaniah 2:3 and 8:21-22.
5. Jesus linked seeking God to seeking His kingdom purposes and purpose here on earth, all for His glory.
We see this in the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 3:2, 4:17, 4:23, 6:9-13, and 7:10. We also see this in Mark 1:15 and Luke 11:2-4, 11:20 and 9:31.
6. Jesus taught that seeking God is not something we try once or twice.
Instead, it requires commitment, diligence, endurance and perseverance. Although we need seek God for salvation once, we must continue to seek it daily for the rest of our lives.
We see this in Matthew 7:7-8 and Luke 11:9-10.
7. Jesus stands at the door of your heart. He hits.
He wants to come celebrate and feast with you (Revelation 3:20). Do you want to let him in? If so, why not tell him right away? In prayer, simply say “Yes!”
